Faculty members and personnel from WCC ATC Binalonan took part in the Environmental Resilience Lecture Series held on July 27, 2026, at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Representing the institution were faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and personnel from the Quality Assurance Office. The lecture series examined flooding, land subsidence, hazard assessment, and other environmental concerns affecting communities across the province.
Experts in archaeology, geology, and disaster science offered perspectives on the history and causes of flooding in Pangasinan. Dr. Jack G.L. Medrana, archaeologist and former faculty member of University of the Philippines and Pangasinan Polytechnic College, discussed its effects on communities and landscapes, while Dr. Dymphna Nolasco-Javier explained how land subsidence can contribute to increased flood risk.
Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay, Executive Director of Project NOAH, highlighted the importance of public awareness and the use of hazard maps in strengthening disaster preparedness and supporting informed decision-making.
Through the lecture series, WCC ATC representatives gained scientific insights that can inform institutional discussions and educational initiatives related to environmental resilience and disaster risk reduction. Their participation also supported SDG 13: Climate Action by promoting greater understanding of environmental hazards and science-informed approaches to preparedness.
