Community Welding Training Produces Road Signs for Barangay Sta. Catalina

On October 20, 2025, 15 residents of Barangay Sta. Catalina, Binalonan received introductory welding training from instructors of WCC ATC Binalonan’s Aircraft Maintenance Technology program while helping fabricate road signs for the community.

The activity combined instructor-led demonstrations with supervised practical exercises, giving participants an opportunity to learn basic welding techniques and apply them to a barangay project. AMT instructors guided the residents through the fabrication process and introduced the proper handling and application of welding equipment. Before the workshop, the instructors demonstrated the equipment and explained its functions. Participants also wore welding shields or masks and gloves during the practical exercises.

Beyond providing exposure to a technical skill, the training produced five road signs intended to address an identified community need. The signs were installed in accident-prone areas across Zones 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Barangay Sta. Catalina to help prevent vehicular accidents. The activity demonstrated how the institution’s technical expertise can be applied beyond the campus through community-based learning and service.

The initiative supported SDG 4: Quality Education by extending practical skills training to community members. It also related to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the local application of technical knowledge to produce community infrastructure.
