2025 Research Symposia Highlight Innovation, Ethics and Sustainable Development

WCC ATC Binalonan brought students and faculty together for two Research Symposium sessions in 2025, which explored research ethics, sustainable innovation, and the role of research in addressing social and development concerns.

Organized every semester by the Research, Planning, and Development Office, the sessions were held on February 11 and September 5 at the WCC Aeronautical and Technological College Cabin Hall in Barangay Canarvacanan, Binalonan, Pangasinan.

Anchored on the theme “Pioneering Aviation Innovation: Bridging Global Disparities Through Research,” the February session involved participants from the Commercial Flying, Airline Operations Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Tourism Management, and Avionics Technology programs.

Dr. Gladys Navarro, Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at PHINMA–University of Pangasinan, discussed how sustainable innovation can help address economic inequalities between developed and developing regions.

Atty. Marben M. Panlasigui, Head of the Prefect of Discipline at WCC ATC Binalonan, discussed research ethics, the Research Ethics Committee process, and intellectual property procedures. His session emphasized the institutional processes and ethical standards that support responsible research.

The September session carried the theme “Empowering Youth as Catalysts of Research for Sustainable Development.” It brought together participants from the Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Avionics Technology, Commercial Flying, and Aeronautical Engineering programs.

Prof. Darwin M. Juguilon delivered the presentation “Empowering Youth as Catalysts of Research for Sustainable Development Management” on behalf of Dr. Carmelo John E. Vidal, Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Luzon. The session examined how young researchers can contribute ideas and research-based responses to real-world sustainability concerns.

Atty. Panlasigui also discussed international research ethics and integrity, emphasizing the principles that help ensure credible and responsible scholarship.

Through the two sessions, the symposium provided participants with perspectives on research ethics, innovation, and sustainability. The activity supported SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting responsible research and encouraging students and faculty to view knowledge creation as a means of addressing real-world concerns.
