Now, before you can begin a career in aircraft mechanics, you need to hone your skills. Your journey to becoming an aircraft mechanic actually starts in senior high school. It is advisable that you take the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) track in your senior high. The curriculum offered in that track is in line with the skills you need to have if you want to become an aircraft mechanic.
After graduating from senior high school, you can now start training to be an aircraft mechanic. There are two ways you can be more educated in the field of mechanics and aviation. First is taking a four year course and get a Bachelor of Science in Aircraft Technology. The other option is to take a vocational Aircraft Technician course.
After that, you can now apply for your license at the Air Transportation Office (ATO). You’ll need to pass a written examination, an interview, and a practical test.
All of that, not including your senior high school, will take around 5 to 6 years. Dreams take some time, but when they come true, you’ll know it was worth the wait.
