On November 7, 2023, the Quality Assurance and Technology Office (QATO) of WCC Aeronautical & Technological College Binalonan, in partnership with the Community Extension and Services Office (CESO) and supported by the Unified Council of Aviators, initiated a sustainability orientation for three community schools in Binalonan: Sta. Catalina Elementary School, Tabuyoc Elementary School, and Math Excellence Academy of Binalonan.
The orientation kicked off with an engaging presentation by Andrea Liz Diocares-Ebilane, the Head of the Quality Assurance and Technology Office (QATO). She introduced the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to Grades Five and Six students from local schools, using real-life examples to make the goals both relatable and interesting for the students. To encourage participation, she included a question-and-answer session, rewarding students with prizes for their responses, which made the discussion lively and interactive. Lastly, she emphasized the value of learning about sustainable development from a young age, highlighting its importance for their future.
Following the overview of the 17 SDGs, the Unified Council of Aviators, the institutional student body organization of WCC ATC Binalonan, organized a series of interactive games centered on sustainability themes. These activities not only reinforced the lessons from the discussion but instead added an element of fun and engagement. Students eagerly participated, with prizes awarded to those who excelled, making the event both educational and enjoyable.
The orientation continued with an informative talk by CESO Head Benedict Navalta and CESO Associate Raffa Peralta. They encouraged students to contribute to the sustainable development goals even at a young age and shared examples of initiatives led by WCC ATC Binalonan students, providing practical ideas that community schools could adopt or even collaborate on with WCC ATC. Their talk emphasized that everyone has a role in creating a sustainable future, inspiring the students to take small, impactful steps toward positive change.
At the end of the orientation, certificates of participation were awarded to all student participants, acknowledging their commitment to learning and their potential role in driving sustainability efforts.
